NEET UG study guide
NEET UG syllabus, paper format and the preparation mistakes to stop repeating
Use the official NEET 2026 syllabus and bulletin as your base, then build a learn–recall–practice–retest system that actually exposes weak areas.
This preparation guide is written by ExamGrind's editorial desk. Official notices and source records are linked below whenever an exam rule, date or requirement needs verification.
Build from the official syllabus, not a random chapter list
NTA publishes the current NEET UG syllabus officially. The 2026 syllabus begins Physics with units such as Physics and Measurement, Kinematics and Laws of Motion, and continues through the full prescribed Physics, Chemistry and Biology scope. Use that official document to check coverage; do not assume an older PDF or a coaching checklist is current.
For the 2026 exam, NTA announced an offline pen-and-paper examination from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM IST. Exact current-year scheme, instructions and eligibility should always be checked in the official information bulletin before an exam-day decision.
Learn each topic in a full cycle
Reading a chapter until it feels familiar is not proof that you can answer a NEET question. Use a four-part cycle: learn the idea, recall it without looking, solve a small focused set, then return after a gap with unseen questions. Your next study action should come from the error you actually made—not from panic about the whole chapter.
For Biology, make diagrams, relationships and exceptions retrievable. For Physics, name the condition under which each formula works. For Chemistry, separate definitions, mechanisms, reactions and exceptions so an error points to a small repair.
Common preparation mistakes
These are learning-process mistakes, not official NTA findings.
- ✦Finishing chapters by page count without testing recall or application.
- ✦Calling every incorrect answer a careless mistake instead of identifying the missed line, formula condition, representation or exception.
- ✦Using a full mock as the only form of practice and never retesting one weak subtopic.
- ✦Treating diagrams and labelled relationships as decoration rather than exam-ready recall material.
Use your next mock as a map
After a test, mark whether each loss came from a concept gap, recall gap, application error, time decision or reading error. Pick one repeated leak, study the smallest source that fixes it, then use fresh questions to prove improvement. This turns a score into a study plan rather than an emotional verdict.
